A bagpipe bag is an airtight reservoir that holds air and regulates its flow via arm pressure, allowing the player to maintain a continuous, even sound.
• Function: Acts as a wind chest, keeping the instrument supplied with air while the player breathes or pumps via bellows.

A bagpipe cover is a decorative and protective cloth sleeve that fits over the air reservoir bag of a set of bagpipes.
While does not have a standalone entry specifically for "bagpipe cover," it is covered within the broader context of the Bagpipes article and related piping terminology.
Key Details About Bagpipe Covers
• Purpose: The cover shields the underlying airtight bag (traditionally made of animal hide or modern synthetics like Gore-Tex) from wear and tear. It also provides grip and comfort under the player's arm and protects clothing from bag dressings (oils or seasonings used inside hide bags).
• Materials: Covers are commonly sewn from fabrics such as velvet, corduroy, wool, or cotton. Many feature custom tartan patterns to match a pipe band’s uniform or a piper's highland dress.
• Features: Standard covers often include a zipper or Velcro fastening for easy installation and removal around the stocks, as well as non-slip patches to keep the instrument secure while marching or playing on the move.

• Definition: According to the Glossary of bagpipe terms, drone cords are decorative accessories utilized to tie or link the tenor and bass drones.
• Function: They help keep the long cylindrical drone pipes stable, properly aligned, and supported relative to one another while the piper plays.
• Placement: The twin cords typically tie across the top and middle sections of the two tenor drones and the bass drone.
• Materials: Traditionally crafted from wool or silk, modern drone cords are also manufactured using synthetic fibers like polyester and come in a wide selection of colors.

Bagpipe drone ribbons are decorative fabric strips attached to or secured around the drones of Scottish bagpipes.
Drone ribbons serve a decorative purpose within the overall uniform, often matching a specific clan tartan, a solid color (such as black for funerals), or national flag colors.
• History: While the traditional drone cord (made of wool or silk)—used to hold and stabilize the pipe configuration—dates back centuries, pictorial evidence suggests that decorative tartan or solid-colored drone ribbons emerged around the mid-19th century (approximately 1840–1860).
• Dimensions: They typically measure about 72 inches (approx. 182 cm) in length and approximately 3 inches in width.
• Attachment: Secured near the bass and tenor drones using Velcro, snaps, or string ties.
-
Bagpipe Reeds
A bagpipe reed is a sound-producing component made of cane, plastic, or metal that vibrates as air flows from the bag through the instrument.
• Function: Reeds act as the acoustic heart of bagpipes, converting steady air pressure from the bag into musical vibrations.
• Types of Reeds:
• Double reeds: Used primarily in melody pipes (chanters) like the Great Highland Bagpipe chanter, vibrating via two opposing blades of cane or synthetic material.
• Single reeds: Used commonly in drone pipes, utilizing a single vibrating tongue or beating reed.
